Painting in Alberta can mean very different planning for an occupied interior versus an exterior exposed to sun, wind, temperature swings and short weather windows.
Give the contractor enough context to price the same project you have in mind.
For exterior work, describe substrate condition, peeling or chalking, repairs, height and access. For interiors, include room count, wall condition, ceilings, trim, colour changes and whether furniture will remain in place.
A contractor should be able to explain preparation as clearly as the finish coat. If the scope only names a paint brand and square footage, ask what cleaning, patching, sanding, caulking, priming and protection are actually included.
